Never Look Back!

“I never look back darling, it distracts me from the now.”

I woke up this morning thinking about the problems of yesterday and spent much of today thinking about things that are out of my control. I kept coming back to this quote and it truly helped me throughout the day. We all make mistakes, we all get hurt, we all have issues: chronic pain or not. We all live with regrets but we just cannot look back. What matters is what we do now: not yesterday, not tomorrow: today. And we must let go of what we cannot control, so much easier said than done. Practice never makes perfect. However, practice does make permanence.

I had a dream last night I was on a roller coaster. I actually love dreams of being on roller coasters because I love thrills. One of my favorite memories ever was bungee jumping: later learned not so great for chronic pain. However, I was not managing it well at the time anyways. I seem to always have the roller coaster dream when my life is going in many different directions. I love the dream until I wake up. Much like all my readers who are suffering with chronic pain. Sometimes being in a dream state is so much easier than waking up our eyes to reality. However, it is something we must face every day of our lives. Hardest thing for all of us is living in the present. I will leave you with the quote: “I never look back darling, it distracts me from the now.” And finally: “Breathe, the universe is taking care of everything else. Let go. Things have a way of working themselves out.”

  1. I love what you wrote. For the last 30 years I have been practicing not looking back and being responsible for myself and my actions. I know it is the way to be. Good for you. This sounds easy to do, but takes hard work that will pay off.
